NOBLESVILLE GIRLS’ LACROSSE TEAM UNVEILS STRIKING LOGO; CREATED BY ALEXDESIGN Noblesville,
IN,

January 12 – The
first girls’ lacrosse team to represent the central Indiana community of Noblesville
will go into action in style, thanks to a vibrant logo design created on a pro bono
basis by an award winning graphic designer Alexandra Leonova of AlexDesign LLC.
The Noblesville Checkers girls’ lacrosse team will put a squad of 26 high school-age
girls in competition against teams across Indiana, and the Midwest during a season
that runs from mid-February through May. The team’s name refers both to a lacrosse
term (checking) for knocking the ball away from another player and the checkered
flags that symbolize victory at each year’s Indianapolis 500 race, explains Checkers
Coach Mark Schreiber.
Leonova combined a shield with a stylized image of a girl ready to pass a ball with
her crosse (the stick used by lacrosse players), checkered flags, and the black
and gold used by Noblesville’s high school teams. Although the team may be new,
the design’s combination of familiar and contemporary elements imparts a sense of
tradition to logo and the team’s uniforms.
“A logo expresses the essence and character of a team,” said Coach Schreiber.
“Ours tells people we are from, with the checkered flags representing winning. Having
the town’s name is important, because our kids represent our community and are committed
to maintaining a first-class image on and off the field. I want them to work hard
and recognize that I expect a great effort every time they take the field.” Schreiber
adds that the logo was well- received by the girls. “These girls work incredibly
hard to master this sport. It takes about 20 hours just to learn how to cradle,
a skill used to run down the field without dropping the ball. They deserve a great
image,” he says.
This logo helps to set the standard of excellence we strive for.” Because the Indiana
High School Athletic Association does not sanction girls’ lacrosse, the Checkers
is an independent team responsible for its own fundraising.
However, Coach Schreiber notes that the 3:1 ratio of girl’s high school lacrosse
team to college teams is much lower than that for sports such as basketball and
soccer, giving the young athletes a better chance to earn athletic scholarships.
